Hello Everybody,
I just want to thank everybody
that weathered the weather to come
to our awards banquet yesterday. We
had one of the biggest turn-outs
yet. There were about 92 people
there with tons of food and a lot of
visiting.
For those of you who did not
make it, I want to get you up to speed.
With the help of the Rice's,
Conway's and NBHA of Indiana (Bob Hess)
we were able to have a great awards
banquet. Bob decided, for this year
at least, to give back to the
districts the money that was given to state
from each show last year. That gave
us a big cushion for awards. Thanks
to that, we were able to give away
our 1st ever saddle. The saddle went
to the 1-D Open winner, who was
Cindy Harlan, I think she was a little
surprised. Then we were able to not
only give 1st place belt buckles, but
also were able to give reserve
buckles. Then buckets full of good things
to 3rd, 4th and 5th place.
With all that said this year
"08" we are starting an "awards fund". This
money has nothing to do with state
at all, this is money that will go straight
into a savings account for "YOUR
AWARDS" next year. The cost of this is
$15.00 for single or $30.00 for
family. You will have until June 8th,
at Anderson, to pay this. If you
choose not to pay that is okay, but here is
what happens. All of your points do
not change at all. If you are in the top
5 of any division you will still
qualify for worlds. If you are in the top 5 and
choose not to pay into the "awards
fund" then you will not receive any
awards next year. For instance if
you would place 2nd in the 1-D and did
not pay into the fund then I would
skip over you and give those awards to
the 3rd place person and so on.
This is completely voluntary. I have a list
out with every members name, as you
pay I mark you as "s" or "f" with the
date you paid. I already collected
$294.00 at the banquet for this fund. In a
years time hopefully we can collect
some interest on our money. The only
exception to the cut-off date for
signing up would be if someone joins
later on in the year. There are
several other states that are doing this and
least 1 other district, possibly 2,
here in Indiana. So here is how to
get signed on. You can pay at the
Frankfort show, Anderson show or you
can send me a check at any time.
Make your check out to NBHA "02". My
address is 3271 S. 500 W.
Marion, IN 46953. If you are interested don't
miss out.
Next, on the agenda is this.
NBHA has decided at some of our super
shows the "Senior Class" will not
receive a saddle. When I called and ask
their reasoning, they said it was
because the class was smaller and the
fees were not as much. To me this
does not seem like a good reason.
I ask who else I could talk to, Georgia
said I would have to take it up with
the "executive board" of NBHA. You
cannot call, you can only write
and give them your feelings. I
have attached a letter that I handed out at
the banquet yesterday. I had 43
taken with envelopes to be mailed this
week. Please print off this letter
and sign it, give your member number at
the bottom where space is provided.
The letter needs to be addressed to
NBHA P.O.Box 1988 Augusta, GA
30903-1988. In the lower left corner
put ATTEN: Executive Board. If we
do not tell them how we feel now, who
knows whose saddles will go next.
For the Gordyville show Charlie
Walker has gotten NBHA to agreed to
"1" saddle for every 50 entries. So
if you were thinking about going your
entry will count. They are also
giving "4" saddles to the open and youth
class.
I think that pretty much is all
I have for now. Don't forget the "awards
fund" I don't want anyone to miss
out. Show season will be here soon
so get to the barn and try to stay
warm. Don't forget for NBHA of IN
info go to www.mcdiamond.com or if
you have a showbill for a NBHA
show and want it posted send it to
www.mcdiamondranch@msn.com
See Ya Soon,
Donna
To The Executive Board of NBHA,
I am writing concerning the
situation about saddles not being given
to our senior riders. I realize
their classes are not as large as an open or
youth class. But, something you
need to realize is at some point in time
and possibly even now those people
are riding in the "Open Class" or
maybe they are the ones hauling
their grandchildren to all of these shows.
I don't feel like it was in the
best interest of NBHA, when last year at the
Great Lake Nationals in Gordyville,
you had decided at the last moment
not to award saddles. Especially
when the showbill advertized that
saddles would be given. Now this
year nothing is being said about any
saddles, but I have found out that
the plan is to give 4 saddles to the
"Open" class and 4 saddles to the
"Youth" and "NONE" to the "Senior"
class. I also realize that the
senior entry fees are not as expensive, but
they do pay the same stall, electric
and fuel cost as everyone else. It
is now my understanding that the
seniors will possibly receive 1 saddle
for every 50 entries.
Don't you feel it is a little
unfair, that at this time in their lives, and for
those who have rode with NBHA for
years are being treated in this
manner? As a member of NBHA I want
my voice heard, that I do not feel
it is fair and something should be
done to correct this.
At our state show in Indiana,
we can afford to give 4 saddles to senior
riders, but NBHA cannot? I realize
that you are buying many more
saddles than that, but it is a
matter of principle.
Thank you for your attention to
this matter.
